LITERATURE REVIEW ON COMMUNITY-BASED RESEARCH

At the start of the Horizon 2020 SciShops project (September 2017), a literature review was undertaken in order to collect information on characteristics and impacts of community-based participatory research and Science Shops.

The literature reviewed includes research articles, project reports, books, presentations, policy documents, manuals, guides, factsheets, infographics, and case studies. Altogether 211 literature items were reviewed.

Information in the report includes:

  • The characteristics of CBPR and science shops (organisational form, participants, topics and scope of research, funding).
  • The impacts of CBPR on the community/society (processes and relations established; utility of participatory research; experience, participation, outputs in terms of the participants’ overall satisfaction; long-term impacts).
  • Summary on best practices of CBPR and Science Shops.
